Equest Internship Program
Equest provides a variety of internships involving the Therapeutic Riding Industry. The hands on experience in the fields of non-profit management, business, equine therapy, and other related fields offer a wide variety of opportunities for those interested in learning. We offer internships ranging from several days to many months, depending on the objectives of the intern and provide housing and riding opportunities if needed.
These opportunities include:
- Therapeutic Riding Program Internship
- Duration: We can offer internships from several days to many months, depending on the objectives of the intern. If housing is desired, the internships have to be scheduled around our Instructor Training Courses, which are held from January to February and August through September. Typically the format is Tuesday through Saturdays part-time or full time, but the summer programming may alter those days.
- Prerequisite Skills: None needed for general Program Interns.
- Job Description: Depends on the goals of the intern. The program intern duties will focus on the varied aspects of the therapeutic riding program. Assisting with classes, the horses and with the administration of the program, including supervising volunteers and attending staff meetings is part of the internship. Helping with special events may be included in the duties.
- Supervisor: Program Director
- The most fulfilling part of the internship is: having the opportunity to watch the bonds that form between staff, instructors, riders, volunteers, and horses.
- Therapeutic Riding Instructor Internship
- Duration: The internships have to be scheduled around our Instructor Training Courses, which are held in January through February and August through September. Typically the format is Tuesday through Saturdays part-time or full time but the summer programming may alter those days.
- Prerequisite Skills: Candidates for the Therapeutic Riding Instructor Internship should have equestrian experience and submit a resume for consideration.
- Description: Interns will assist the instructors in the implementation of the therapeutic riding classes and/or Hippotherapy. They may also be assigned to helping with related duties, such as administrative tasks, special events and competitions.
- Supervisor: Riding Instructors and/or Program Director
- The most fulfilling part of the internship…learning skills needed to become a therapeutic riding instructor.
- Therapeutic Riding Administrative Internship
- Duration: The days are Monday through Friday, and if housing is desired, the internships have to be scheduled around Instructor Training Courses, which are January through February and August through September.
- Prerequisite Skills: An interest in the operations of non-profit organizations. Please submit a resume.
- Description: Interns will assist the executive director and director of development with fund raising, meeting management, registration, research and special events. Interns are required to go through volunteer training and may be assigned to helping volunteer with riders.
- Supervisor: Executive Director and/or Director of Development
- The most fulfilling part of the internship is…seeing the difference you can make in people’s lives.
- Therapeutic Riding Stable Management Internship
- Duration: If housing is desired, the internships have to be scheduled around our Instructor Training Courses, which are held in January and February and August through September. Typically the format is Monday through Friday part-time or full time, but the summer programming may alter those days.
- Prerequisite Skills: Candidates for the Therapeutic Riding Instructor Interns should have equine experience and submit a resume for consideration.
- Description: These interns will assist the stable manager with daily barn maintenance such as, mucking stalls, feeding, watering, horse evaluations, and veterinary care of our therapeutic horses.
- Supervisor: Stable Manager
- The most fulfilling part of the internship is…the opportunity to work with horses in a positive and rewarding atmosphere.
- Therapeutic Riding Volunteer Director Internship
- Duration: If housing is desired, the internships have to be scheduled around our Instructor Training Courses, which are held in January through February and August through September. Typically the format is Tuesday through Saturday part-time or full time, but the summer programming may alter those days.
- Prerequisite Skills: None are needed for general Volunteer Interns, but computer skills, specifically with Excel and E-mailing are a plus.
- Description: Assisting the Volunteer Director with recruiting, scheduling, training, notifications and confirmation of class assignments, maintaining paperwork and files, helping with special events and trainings, and implementation of volunteers in the program. There will be times when help is needed during lessons and the intern will fill in as a volunteer.
- Supervisor: Volunteer Director
- The most fulfilling part of the internship is…seeing that the program works. Watching the smiles on the rider’s faces as they light up with a sense of fun, purpose, and accomplishment.
- Therapeutic Riding Director of Development
- Duration: The days are Monday through Friday, and if housing is desired, the internships have to be scheduled around Instructor Training Courses, which are January through February and August through September.
- Prerequisite Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and creativity for graphic designs are preferred. Candidates for the Director of Development Internship should submit a resume for consideration.
- Description: These interns will assist the Director of Development with researching prospective donors on the Internet, preparing materials for meetings and prospective donors, writing letters for special events, obtaining bills for specific events, and generally helping out as needed.
- Supervisor: Director of Development
- The most fulfilling part of the internship…the ability to apply knowledge gained in the classroom and to obtain new information outside of the class.
