Kay has been the Executive Director of Equest Therapeutic Horsemanship since October 2003. Prior to that she was an independent fund raising consultant and has over 25 years of experience working with colleges, universities, hospitals, medical and trade associations and religious groups in all aspects of fund-raising. Kay was a certified fund raising executive (CFRE) for 14 years.
Kay received a B.S. degree in English and Creative Writing from Bowling Green State University in 1971. Her initial career was as a university librarian. From there she moved into the development arena and has served as institutional development officer for colleges, private schools and political organizations. In 1989 she became a fund raising consultant, opening the Dallas regional office for a national fund raising firm. In that capacity she has developed and implemented capital campaigns, annual fund programs, executive searches, and all other components of fund raising. Clients include, Hood College in Maryland, Meadows School of the Arts at SMU, Temple Emanu El, Meeting Professionals International Foundation, The American Red Cross of Tarrant County, National Athletic Trainers Association, Cincinnati Country Day School, East Texas Medical Center, Visiting Nurse Association, Dallas Public Library, St. Mary's Food Bank, Dallas Can! Academy, Cathedral Santuario de Guadalupe and most recently the Dallas Holocaust Memorial Center.
Kay has actively been involved with the United Way as a volunteer instructor in board/staff relations and strategic planning. She has been active in the Association of Fund Raising Professionals (AFP) for over 25 years, serving on the Executive Committee of the Dallas Chapter as Vice President and President and on the AFP National Board and the AFP Foundation. She is a frequent speaker, lecturer and is a faculty member for the Southwest Fund Raising Symposium, a course for beginning fund raising executives, as well as the AFP Survey Course which prepares fund raisers for their exam for certification (CFRE). Her writings on fund-raising have appeared in professional publications.
Kay has been riding horses since age 10, training and showing for many years.
