Donate a horse

As our horses age, it becomes necessary to retire many of them to loving homes.  Retirement leaves us with empty stalls, and each empty stall means that 15 disabled riders will be disappointed.

The ideal therapy horse is sound, has an unflappable temperament, and unlimited heart. Our horses have come from many different backgrounds including show horses, polo, police work, school horses, racing, family pets and fox hunting. The average age of Equest horses is 17 years.

While we need all sizes and shapes to serve our riders, we especially need sturdy horses, 15-16.1 hands that can accommodate large adolescents and adults.  Many of our riders began their Equest experiences as little tykes.  Over the years, these little tykes have grown up and are now in need of larger horses.

If you have a horse you are not using, would you consider donating him or her to Equest?  In addition to a tax deduction, by donating your horse to Equest, you can be assured that he or she will receive quality care, unlimited love, and constant attention.  You also receive the satisfaction of knowing that you are providing unique assistance that will enable 15 disabled riders to grow in physical ability, confidence, and self-esteem - through the Equest experience.  Donors may retain right of first refusal, if requested.

Each horse donated to Equest must:

If Equest instructors initially approve a horse being offered for donation, the horse will be taken to Equest for a 4-6 week trial period before officially being accepted into the program.
