Equest Schooler Program
The purpose of the schooling program at Equest is to contribute to the horses’ well-being by riding and schooling them in a manner that keeps them fit, agile, balanced, supple, relaxed and able to perform their job to the best of their ability. It is Equest’s intent for the schooling program to be an enjoyable, educational and social program for all the humans involved.
Schooler Criteria:
- Minimum age: 14 years
- Must be able to ride with a solid seat, correct alignment, balanced weight distribution and strong and effective aids.
- Must possess a thorough understanding of equine psychology and behavior, and be able to communicate with the horse in a beneficial manner both mounted and unmounted.
- Must possess skills such as: riding the horse on a bit, working knowledge of diagonals and leads, ability to bend and supple the horse, lateral movements such as leg yieldings, side passing, turn on the forehand and haunches, simple lead changes, warm up and cool down procedures and the ability to identify unsoundness, stiffness, gait and behavioral problems.
Schoolers must test in their discipline of choice and will pay an annual schooling fee of $125 upon passing the test. For more information on the Equest Schooling Program, contact Pam Dance.
