Equest Rider Case Study: Becca

Diagnosis: Spastic Cerebral Palsy

Tenure at Equest: Becca started in sports riding at seven-years-old. She has been riding at least once a week for the past 10 years. When Becca started riding, she needed assistance from a leader and two sidewalkers to help her balance and maintain her leg position. She is now a level 4 rider, which means Becca rides independently at the walk, trot, and canter. Regular riding helps Becca maintain her leg strength and balance as well as the mobility in her hips and lower back. Becca has gained a great deal of confidence in her ability to master new skills and negotiate complicated patterns in class; she has successfully demostrated those skills in the competition arena.

Becca's case study appeared in Equest's 2012-13 Annual Report
