Equest named Nonprofit of the Year

DALLAS – For over three decades, it has been Equest’s mission to enhance the quality of life for children and adults with diverse needs using horses to bring hope and healing through equine assisted activities and therapies. Equest’s extraordinary achievements were recognized on November 12 as it won the prestigious “Nonprofit of the Year” award by CNM Connect at the 2015 A Night of Light Awards of Excellence.

Now in its 15th year, the “Nonprofit of the Year” award maintains the highest level of criteria and an independent panel of established judges to review and narrow down the 117 nominations this year. The award is then presented to “the nonprofit organization that has best implemented a program/project clearly focused on advancing its mission to address a community need with measurable outcomes, sustainability, positive community impact, collaborative efforts and strategic vision.” In addition to the honor of being named “Nonprofit of the Year,” Equest also received $5,000 and a commemorative Tiffany’s plate.

“I’m so proud, and it is truly an honor,” said Lili Kellogg, Equest Interim CEO. “The award reinforces what I already knew; that we have an incredible board, staff, and dedicated community of volunteers. Everyone’s time, energy, and passion are the driving force that keeps Equest’s mission moving and exceling day after day.”

Equest was founded in 1981 and has served thousands of North Texas children and adults with disabilities at their Wylie riding center through traditional equine therapy programs. In 2011, Equest began the Hooves for Heroes program to serve U.S. Veterans and their families. Most recently, in 2015, Equest extended their reach to support the underserved area of South and West Dallas with a second facility at the new Texas Horse Park. With the help of 45 therapy horses, 12 instructors, 4 therapists and 500 volunteers, lives are changed on a daily basis for the 300 + clients served every week. As the first PATH International Accredited Center in Texas and one of the largest in the country – Equest provides 40,000 hours of direct service each year. www.equest.org
